Peekers is a browser extension that displays a small animated character on the pages you visit. This page explains, plainly, what the extension does and does not do with your data.
What Peekers does not do
- Peekers does not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for anything beyond what's described on this page.
- The extension itself does not use any analytics, tracking, or advertising services, and never reads or stores the content of the pages you visit.
- By default — using either of the two characters bundled with the extension — Peekers sends nothing to a remote server at all. No account, no backend, no network request.
What Peekers stores, and where
Peekers uses your browser's local extension storage
(chrome.storage.local) to remember your preferences —
which character is selected, the character's size, whether Peekers
is turned on, your focus-mode site settings, and anything else you
configure. This data stays on your device and is never transmitted
anywhere on its own.
Signing in and syncing extra characters
Peekers comes with two characters bundled for free, with no
account required. If you choose to sign in on
peekers.app to select additional
characters, that's when — and only when — the extension talks to a
server: our own backend (built on Supabase), used to verify your
session and fetch the character configuration, images, and sounds
for whichever characters you've chosen. Your email address and a
login session token are stored locally in
chrome.storage.local so you stay signed in; we don't
use them for anything besides authenticating you and syncing your
selections. We never sell this data or share it with anyone else.
Custom companions made from your photo
If you choose to order a custom companion on peekers.app, you'll upload 1–3 photos of yourself, which we use as a reference to hand-draw an animated character that looks like you. This is restricted to photos of the account holder only — we don't accept or use photos of anyone else. A few specifics:
- Uploaded photos are stored in a private storage bucket, separate from the public character art everyone else sees — only your own account and our fulfillment process can access them, never anyone else, and they're never listed publicly anywhere on the site or in the extension.
- Your photo is used only to produce your companion's artwork. We don't use it for any kind of automated identity recognition, and we don't use it to train any model.
- Once your companion is delivered, the raw uploaded photo is deleted. We keep the record that you placed an order (so your purchase history and delivered character stay attached to your account), but not the photo itself.
- Order details (which style and personality you picked, order status, and — once delivered — which character it produced) are stored the same way as the rest of your account data, visible only to you.
Why Peekers requests the permissions it does
- Storage — to remember your character and settings between browsing sessions, as described above.
- Access to the pages you visit — so the character can appear as an overlay on the page, and so Peekers can check the site's hostname to apply your calm/hidden settings or a focus-session block. Peekers never reads or stores the page's actual content.
- Active tab — used for the keyboard shortcut and the popup's toggle to instantly show or hide the companion on the tab you're currently viewing.
- Notifications — used to show break-reminder and calendar-nudge notifications, so they reach you even if Peekers' tab isn't the one you're looking at.
- Access to our own server
(
ktbeognsnuedgkcxcncz.supabase.co) — used only to sync characters you've explicitly selected while signed in, as described above. Peekers never contacts any other server.
This website
peekers.app uses Vercel Web Analytics to see aggregate traffic like page views and referral sources. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across other sites, and doesn't collect anything that identifies you individually. This is separate from the extension, which — as described above — has no analytics of any kind.
